Objectives

OBJECTIVE 1: To explore a potential career in an area other than my major of Art & Digital Design
* Learn about the sales/advertisement agency
MEANS:
* Take direction from my mentor and fulfill tasks given
* Learn professional jargon
* Participate in conversations that allow for jargon usage
* Pick up skills necessary to succeed in that industry
* Participate in a team project
* Be prepared to tackle any assignment
* Continue to ask questions about the field with those I am involved with
ASSESSMENT:
* Compile a list if pros and cons to determine which field I could prefer to continue
* Take notes during my first weeks there
* Follow up with my mentor after each assignment is finished
* Compile a portfolio at the end of my experience
* Take on newer larger tasks for opportunity to grow
NARRATIVE: I chose this objective becasue I have been second guessing my career path of Art/Digital Design.  I have been disliking it more and more each year, so I really wanted to explore other options.  I proceeded by only applying for sales or event planning internships.  It was a hard decision,  but I ended up taking the sales assistant internship.  I thought that this would be the most challenging for me because I have never studied anything other than PR and Design.

As my internship is coming to an end, I can really appreciate how much this experience is going to help me in my future life after graduation.  I believe that having this internship on my resume, future employers are going to be please with my new skill set.  I was able to learn things that I haven't studied yet and have grown each time.  Throughout the internship Andrea and I would talk about how much I have grown and how I was able to complete any task and ask less questions each times.

OBJECTIVE 2: Determine whether I want to stay in small town Iowa, or work in a big city after graduation

MEANS:
* Make a pros and cons list of what I like and dislike about each place
* Keep an open mind while trying new things
* Promote my future by gather cards from those I meet and build a network
* Draw from my past work experience and compare to this new experience
* Continue to try new activities
ASSESSMENT:
* Analyze what each location as to offer
* Compile a contact list to open new opportunities
* Act like I am part of the city life, not just a visitor to fully understand the city

NARRATIVE: Going into this experience I was really excited to get out of small town Iowa.  I was soon feeling a little disappointed with how I actually felt.  I thought that I would immediatly fall in love and never want to be anywhere else.  In reality I was just missing my home.

I am leaving here just as confused about where I want to be as I was when I got here.  I at least know now that I can handle being away from my family and I can survive the city life and everything it has to offer. In my October 29-November 4 journal entry I wrote about how I was disappointed in how much I didn't love the city.  With as much as I enjoyed my time here, I am not 100% sure if I can see myself living in the city again.

OBJECTIVE 3: To learn and gain experiences not offered in a book or in a classroom
MEANS:
* Approach this experience as though I am being graded on my performance
* Finish tasks on time using time management
* Develop stronger computer application skills
* Dedicate my weekdays to my work
* Develop the ability to recall important information during the job without using my notes
ASSESSMENT:
* Complete an advertisement workbook in an efficient manner
* Complete all tasks without asking my mentor
* Complete a portfolio to add to help my future job search
* Discuss my workflow with my advisor
* Do exceptional work to gain potential resume references
* Make my semester without classes meaningful

NARRATIVE: I am most excited about this objective mainly because I picked up so many new skill sets than I could have in any classroom.  And the best part was I was learning on the fly; taking from my mentors way of working and creating my own.  Whereas in a classroom we have been designed to do things that are in preference to our professors.

I really feel like I excelled in my ability to complete tasks on time and efficiently.  I really tried my hardest to complete the work and take notes about questions I might have.  I thought this was really efficient for not only me but for my mentor as well.  This way I wouldn't be bothering her every time I had a question, I would just come to her at the end and have all the questions answered in one shot. Looking back in my journal entry of Sept 23-29 I wrote about how it was hard to keep up with the pace everyone else was working at, but later in week 14 I wrote about how I was getting off early because I was getting all of my work done quickly.  That just goes to show how far I have come in learning the business of sales.
